Find a Peaceful Birth and Postpartum Experience with Mindful Postpartum & Doula Services Lebanon, OR

There are so many decisions that come along with having a baby. Finding the right medical care and support system are vital for peace of mind. Some women choose to hire a doula for support during the birthing process and beyond. If this is something you’re interested in, or if you just want to learn a little more about why you may consider a doula, here’s some information about Mindful Postpartum & Doula, Albany, OR from my Q&A with doula Jessika Brent.

About Jessika from Mindful Doula, Lebanon, OR

Here’s a little about Jessika in her own words:
“I grew up in Washington state and moved here about 7 years ago. I have two daughters and a wonderful partner. I went to college to be an infant toddler teacher but later found the daycare life wasn’t for me. I loved the family, but the atmosphere wasn’t for me. I have always loved babies and birth and decided to finish up my Doula trainings I started years ago.”

Q: What made you want to become a doula?

“My love for nurturing, guiding and loving people.”

A mother holds her young infant to her chest. They're both wearing soft pink. She has her hand on the baby's back.

Q: What is a doula?

“A doula is a support person that is dedicated to supporting only you and your family during birth and postpartum. We offer physical, mental, pain, and emotional support during these sensitive times of your lives.”

Q: Do I need a doula if I have a great midwife/doctor?

“You don’t need one per se but I highly recommend getting one. They lower your chances of mental disorders, trauma, interventions and c-sections.”

Q: Do you only attend home births?

“No, I attended births of any kind and mostly anywhere. I support many types of births from hospitals to homes, natural and epidural, and vaginal to cesareans.”

Q: How does a doula interact with the medical staff?

“Like a team. We are not there to compete. We are there to support you and your baby and birth partners. And make your experience happy.”

Q: What are the benefits of hiring a doula?

There are so many but I feel the one that people love the most is that with a doula you’re 36% less likely to have a C-section.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I love coming in and connecting with families. Figure out what their needs and goals are for their new journey. And then doing my very best to make that happen or provide resources that can. I love nurturing families during both birth and postpartum.
