There’s something extra cozy about photographing your new baby right in the comfort of your own home. No packing up, no racing out the door—you just relax in your favorite spot on the couch or on the bed while I do my thing. Whether you’re bringing home your very first baby or your fourth (hi, fellow big family club!), I’m here to make sure your at home newborn session will be easy, relaxed, and meaningful. I’m in Albany but of course will travel to the surrounding areas as well. I also have studio access if you prefer. But since this is about in-home newborn photography Albany, OR,
Let’s dive into what you can expect…
If you’re in the Albany, OR area and wondering what an in-home newborn session looks like, you’re in the right place. My sessions are all about capturing real moments, tiny baby details, and the sweet connections between you and your little one—no stress required. My goal is to create images that take you back to this time whenever you look at them. Because no matter how cliche it is, babies really do grow so much faster than we expect. And that newborn stage is over in an instant.
If you’re reading this early enough, reach out while you’re still pregnant to get on my calendar. I typically schedule newborn sessions within 1–2 weeks of your due date. That said, life (and babies!) don’t always stick to the calendar. If your baby arrives early, no worries—just reach out and we’ll adjust your date as needed. And if your baby is already here and a little older than two weeks? That’s okay too! I’ve worked with newborns and older babies alike.
I love photographing newborns in the mid to late morning when the light in your home is soft and lovely. Speaking of light, all we need is one good window. When I get to your home, I’ll do a quick check to see where you’ve got good light, and we’ll focus on that area. Typically that’s the master bedroom or nursery. Whether you’re in your nursery, on the master bed, or cuddled up on the couch, I’ll find the best light and we’ll make magic there.
I block out two full hours for every newborn session—and I only book one newborn a day. That means no pressure and no clock-watching. We’ll go at baby’s pace with plenty of time for feeding, changing, snuggling, and anything else your little one needs.
This means we follow your baby’s cues. I’ll gently guide you into flattering, cozy poses, but I have no expectations for whether your baby is awake, asleep, or needs to be in your arms the whole time. This is your family’s story, and it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
Nope. Not even a little bit. I have four kids—I get it. If you do want to do something, maybe take a minute to clear off your night stands of anything you don’t want in the photos. I can always help tidy a corner or scoot things out of the way as we go. You just had a baby-I don’t expect you to spend time cleaning for your session.
Stick with comfortable, neutral-colored clothing. Soft textures and earth tones photograph beautifully. Dresses always look amazing, but if that’s not your thing, no worries. Just avoid bright colors, logos, or distracting prints. If you’re wearing a bright red shirt, for example, that color will reflect onto baby’s skin. For baby, I recommend a simple, well-fitting onesie (think newborn or preemie size) and a couple of favorite swaddles. Oversized outfits tend to bunch up in photos, so snug is best. I really love a simple white onesie for baby.
Becoming an older sibling is a big deal! I like to start with sibling shots since attention spans can be short. Let your kids know that a friend is coming over to take some pictures—it helps if they know what to expect. And if they need a break (or a snack), we’ll roll with it. I’ve got four of my own, so nothing surprises me!
The best thing you can do is take a deep breath and just be present. I know this season is a beautiful blur of emotions and exhaustion. My job is to capture all the love, snuggles, and tiny details so you can remember this time for years to come.
Right before I arrive, give baby a good feeding and dress them in their onesie. That way, we don’t have to disrupt them too much to get started. Having a backup outfit on hand is a good idea just in case.
Yes! Maternity sessions can take place at home, in a beautiful outdoor spot, or in the studio. Earth tones, neutrals, and long, flowy dresses photograph so well. Partners and kiddos are always welcome. It’s such a sweet way to document the calm before baby arrives.
I’m always happy to chat. Send me a message anytime and I’ll walk you through it step-by-step.
