You’ve booked your session, picked your outfits, and now it’s almost go time! Wondering how to prepare for senior pictures so you can show up confident and ready? I’ve got you covered.
Senior photos should feel fun and easy, not stressful. A little prep ahead of time means you’ll show up feeling relaxed, confident, and totally ready to shine.
Here are a few things I recommend doing the week before your shoot:
You might think that dress fits perfectly or that your white top isn’t see-through… but try it on just to be sure. And don’t just toss it on over your PJs—wear the undergarments you plan to wear on photo day. Make sure you feel good, things fit comfortably, and you’re not tugging or adjusting anything.
Trust me, trying everything on a week before gives you time to swap something out or grab a better option if something doesn’t feel quite right.
Once your outfits are finalized, lay them all out—including shoes, accessories, and any layers like jackets or hats. That way you’re not scrambling at the last second or realizing your favorite necklace is tangled in a drawer somewhere.
While you’re at it, steam or iron anything that’s wrinkled. It’s one of those little details that makes a big difference in your photos.
And this is a tiny thing—but cut out those long hanger tags that are sewn into seams. You know the ones that always pop out of dresses and tops? They have a sneaky way of showing up in photos, so it’s best to snip them off ahead of time.
I know, I sound like a mom—but truly, being well-rested makes a huge difference in how you feel (and look) the next day. Hydrate, go to bed a little earlier than usual, and maybe do a quick face mask or skincare routine you love. No need to go overboard—just aim to feel your best.
Eat something. Bring water. Give yourself plenty of time to get ready so you’re not rushing. Whether you’re doing your own makeup or having it done professionally, aim for something a little more polished than your everyday look—but still you.
Hair should be styled in a way that feels like you, too. You don’t need prom hair. A few soft waves or your natural texture is perfect.
You don’t need to “practice posing” or worry about what to do with your hands. I’ll guide you through the entire session and we’ll have fun with it. The more relaxed you are, the better your photos will look—so your only job is to show up ready to enjoy it.
