Mini Sessions at Schreiner’s Iris Gardens: Color, Charm, and All the Spring Feels

If you’ve ever driven past Schreiner’s Iris Gardens in May and gasped a little at how stunning it is—same. I can’t believe how many years it took me to actually stop and walk the gardens. This place is next level when it comes to spring color, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite spots to photograph mini sessions. You can see the iris fields from the freeway, but the display garden is even more beautiful and so worth the stop.

Why Schreiner’s Iris Gardens Is a Must-Photograph Spot

Tucked just outside Salem, Oregon, this garden is bursting with flowers in every shade imaginable. The fields have beautiful rows of irises, and the display garden is full of charming walking paths and flower varieties. In addition to irises, there are lupine, peonies, and countless other flowers blooming. It’s the perfect spot for a mini session that feels relaxed, colorful, and a little bit magical.

Mini Sessions for Every Kind of Family

Mini sessions are short and sweet—just enough time to get the beautiful, joy-filled photos without anyone needing a snack break.

They’re a great option for busy families, high school seniors, couples, or anyone who wants updated photos in a stunning spring setting—without the commitment of a full session. I love when seniors bring their cap and gown, too.

What to Wear? I’ve Got You!

Not sure what pairs well with all those gorgeous blooms? A flowy dress is always classic. Cream pairs well with all the flower colors. Soft neutrals are perfect for both men and women. Scroll to the bottom of this article for a link to my blog on what to wear for your photos.

What It’s Like Shooting Here

Each session is 15 minutes, and the vibe is relaxed, fun, and totally low-stress. I guide you through natural poses and help keep things moving so we can get a mix of sweet candids and classic shots—no stiff smiles required.

The garden staff is lovely, the flowers are unreal, and even in the mid-morning light, this place absolutely glows. Whether you’re wrangling toddlers or bringing your high school senior, there’s a spot here that’ll work perfectly.

The display garden has a small entrance fee (at the time of writing, it’s free for little kids and $6-$12 depending on age and whether you’re there on a weekend or weekday), and I encourage families to stick around after your session to really enjoy the garden.

Why I’ll Keep Coming Back

Schreiner’s Iris Gardens is one of those places that just gets better every year. The color, the light, the peaceful vibe—it all comes together to make mini sessions feel extra special. I leave with muddy knees and a happy heart every time.

If you’ve never visited during peak bloom, trust me—it’s worth the trip. And if you’re thinking about booking a session here, get on the list early because these minis go *fast*. And of course I’m always happy to book a full session if you want extra time in the garden.
